Donald Trump And Vladimir Putin Appear In Billboard Ad To Make World Great Again [Fact Check]
All throughout the U.S. presidential election, there was discussion about President-elect Donald Trump’s potential relationship with Russia’s president Vladimir Putin Vladimir Putin. Now, there appears to be a photograph depicting the two on a billboard with the words “Let’s make the world great again — together.” The slogan is an obvious takeoff of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan.
Republicans and Democrats alike are struggling to assess Trump’s apparent policy priorities, from improving U.S. relations with Russia to rethinking participation in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. So, an image like this would certainly leave a lot of people confused.
While some people on social media doubted the existence of that billboard image, it is indeed real as shown by research from Snopes. Check out the image below first.
This image while received with skepticism was originally published by Getty Images on Nov. 16 2016 and shows a billboard in the town of Danilovgrad in Montenegro. It has a population of 5,208 from a 2003 census. It is situated in the Danilovgrad Municipality which lies along the main route between Montenegro’s two largest cities, Podgorica and Nikšić. Via villages, Danilovgrad forms part of a conurbation with Podgorica.
The town of Danilovgrad is located in the fertile valley of the Zeta River, sometimes called also the Bjelopavlići plain, after the name of the local clan. It is the centre of the municipality, which has a population of 16,523.
Attached to that Getty Images posting was the following mention referencing what is happening in the photograph:

“Cars pass by a billboard showing US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin placed by pro-Serbian movement in the town of Danilovgrad on November 16, 2016. Russian President Vladimir Putina nd Donald Trump spoke on the phone on November 205, and agreed on the need to normalise ties between Washington and Moscow, the Kremlin said.”
In further support that the image is real, it was also captured by Reuters as seen below.
Finally, Snopes referenced an article from the Washington Post which included the image. The story was about how Russians in the city of Obninsk were planning to rally in support of a Trump presidency. You can read some of the text below.
“The demonstration was organized [by] Artyom Mainas, a 27-year-old blogger in Obninsk, a nuclear-research center 60 miles south of Moscow. He decided to act after seeing news from the United States about demonstrations against Trump’s election.
“I believe it is very important to support him here in Russia,” said Mainas.”
